101 Ways to Decorate Your Home Using Pinterest (11-15)

Here are some fun and easy ways to jazz up your home and make better use of your space!

11.  When I saw this post on Pinterest, I knew just what to do with it.  I had a little piece that would be perfect for this project.  I think it turned out great and it only cost me a couple of dollars worth of dollar store shadow boxes.

12. I think this picture really was showcasing the old window, but what I loved the most about it was the fabric banner as a border.  So, I grabbed some fat quarters from my stash, printed a template, used a rotary cutter to make them all uniform, and just used liquid stitch and some quilt binding to put it all together!

13.  Yet another fabulous way to use dead space on your walls.  I have a sliver of space in my kitchen and a lack of kitchen towel holders.  The perfect (and inexpensive!) solution?  $1.19 drawer pulls from Lowe's!  I even got to use a power tool for this one.  :)
14.  I'll be honest, I saw this display in IKEA before I saw the post on Pinterest, but this idea is just too good not to pass on.  For about $20, I finally have a way to showcase all of Jake's cool little projects that he makes at school.  And I also have a place to put those loose pics that I just don't know what to do with.

15.  I was DYING to make this little gem and it was DEFINITELY worth the few dollars and few minutes of effort.  For about $15 and about 15 minutes, I made a beautiful and functional way to display my earrings.  (I think I need to go shopping for some more!)

101 Ways to Decorate Your Home Using Pinterest (6-10)

Here are ideas 6-10 for decorating your house using ideas from Pinterest.  Proof that you really CAN use these ideas yourself!

6.  We have traveled a lot over the last 10 years (until we had children!) and took many beautiful photos that we love to look at.  When I saw this post for hanging art on a horizontal line, I knew this would be idea for our travel pictures and I just LOVE the way it turned out!

7.  In our new house, all of our kitchen appliance are stainless steel.  Nice to look at, but they're not magnetic!  I loved this idea of using a simple, cheap oil drip pan as a magnetic board.  Not only did it gave me a way to let Jake continue to play with all of his magnetic toys, but we can keep them in his room!

8.  Being the mother of two small children, keeping cleaning products in an accessible (and dangerous!) location is a concern.  I love this idea and used this method on the back of our laundry room door.  This got all of my cleaning products out from underneath the kitchen sink and behind a safety gate and closed door.

9.  I always have trouble lining up photos on the wall juuuuust right.  It's my control freak OCD nature.  This - idea - is - genius and all you need is wax paper!  I used it in Cooper's room and also with the horizontal line art in #6 above.  So easy and just the coolest thing ever!

10.  One day my husband walked in the door carrying an old pallet from work.  I guess he really DOES listen when I tell him about Pinterest projects I want to try!  Within 30 minutes he had cut it down and was already staining it.  Now, we're lazy and didn't go so far as to sand it down and make it all fine and pretty.  But, we think it turned out pretty well and we love the idea of this pallet turned wine rack!

101 Ways to Decorate Your Home Using Pinterest (1-5)

We had some friends over the other night and I found myself saying OVER AND OVER "Pinterest...Pinterest...Oh, Pinterest" every time one of them asked "Where did you get that idea?!"  :)  So, over the next few months I will aspire to use Pinterest to decorate our new home in 101 different ways.  Here is the first installment.  I give you #1-5...

1 Faux roman shades My faux shades1.  I have always loved the look of Roman shades and I can even use the sewing machine a little bit to make things for around the house. However, I know my limits and I know that Roman shades are difficult and time consuming.  So, when I saw this post on making FAUX ROMAN SHADES, I thought, now that's right up my alley!  Click the pic on the left to go to the site for instructions - my rendition is on the right.

2 Letter prints My letter prints2. When I saw this idea on Pinterest, I jumped on it right away for Christmas gifts!  The cost of prints + .97 frames from Wal-Mart = a GREAT gift for family!!  Oh, and a great look for my mudroom, too!!  The Flikr site has TONS of each letter - you just pick the combo you like and you're done!  Click here to see for yourself!

3 Behr Mocha Latte My Behr mocha latte3. Our new house is fabulous, but the paint colors chosen by the previous owner were awful.  I mean - off the charts terrible.  The worst was our master bedroom - salmon pink.  (Try waking up to that every morning!)  I didn't really know what color I wanted to go until I saw this pic on Pinterest.  Behr Mocha Latte.  Yes, please.

4 Art shelves My art shelves4. Over the last 10 years or so, I have accumulated roughly a million mismatched photo frames that I can't bring mysely to get rid of.  What to do with these in our beautiful new home?  How to make them look like they are "on purpose" and not a wishywashy mess?!  An art ledge, of course!  $10 in materials, about 30 minutes for Dave to construct, and an hour or so to paint.  Voila!!

5 Cake stand by sink My cake stand sink5. The kitchen in the new house is a little more grown up, a little more sophisticated than our last one.  To just throw the hand soap and dish liquid by the sink didn't feel quite right.  This beautiful alternative not only "churched up" my soaps, but gave me a way to show off a beautiful cake stand that I love!
